Week 3


 Here is a peak at what we will be focusing on this week:

 

Our color days will continue this week with pink, white, and black. We will learn songs about these colors, discuss the spelling of the colors, and think of things that are these colors.


Language Arts 

 

  • Letter Sounds and phonemic awareness: p, n, s, a, l
  • How can I be a book lover?
  • How can I become a better reader by reading a book page by page?
  • How can I become a better reader by reading a book page by page?

  • How can I stay focused on my reading and respect other readers? 
  • How can I become a better reader by working with an elbow partner?  
  • Who are authors and illustrators?
  • Handwriting: lowercase c, o, s, v, w
  • We will learn how to choose I-Pick books. These books are books that interest us and we are able to read the words or tell a story by reading the pictures.
  • We will be building our “reading stamina” during Read to Self. Our goal is to be able to keep our reading stamina for 20 minutes.

 

Math

  • Students will be introduced to the concept of zero, the word zero and the numeral “0”.  
  • Students will be introduced to the numbers 1-9 in a variety of activities and to reinforce early counting and numeration skills and principles.
  • Students will be introduced to attributes and sorting.
  • Students will be introduced to volume by sand and water play.



IB-Who We Are 

 

 

We will be discussing the central idea of the first IB Unit “Who We Are”. The central idea is “Feelings, cultures, and interests shape humans identities”.

  • We will begin presenting our "Me" dolls as they are turned in
  • We will discuss and graph birthdays.
  • We will discuss and graph eye color.

 


 Special Information


Curriculum Night is Tuesday September 9th at 6:30 pm. Please make every effort to be there and keep in mind, this is a parent only event.

Please be sure to return the class T-shirt order form and $10 cash by September 9th. We will wear this shirt on field trips, field day, and other special occasions.
