Reminders and News:

I forgot to send the poetry folders home
on Friday. I will send them home on Monday so that you may sing the –et word
family song with your child. Please have your child read/sing the poems in the
poetry folder this and return the folder on Wednesday.
·
Please continue to work on the sight
words with your child at home. I will test students on Fridays each week. I send
new lists home on Friday when your child has mastered a list, so check your
student’s backpack!
·
Remember, library day is Tuesday. Please
have your child bring their library book back to school Tuesday morning.
Otherwise, they will not be able to check out a new book until the following Tuesday
·
This Wednesday is early dismissal.
Please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:15. There is no after-school care.
·
Field Day is this Friday from 8:30-11:30.
Please have your child wear their class t-shirt (Tie-dye Ms. Bowman’s class)
and athletic pants and shoes. If it is chilly that day, please send your
student in long pants and a long sleeve shirt underneath the class shirt. Parents
are invited to come cheer on their children, but they must sign in and receive
a badge from the Reception Desk.
Here is a peak at what we will be focusing on this week:
Language Arts
- We will learn a poem called “Autumn”.
Students will find the rhyming words in the poem.
Writing
·
Drawing even hard to make ideas- What should students do if they
make a mistake in their drawing? What are ways they can draw things that may be
difficult for them?
·
Using both pictures and words like famous Authors. We will compare
what different Authors do in their writing. We will look at Donald Crews and
Kevin Henkes books to compare how they are different.
·
We will continue to practice stretching and writing words.
·
We will write about the student of the week.
Math
·
What is a number story? What
helps you understand a number story? Students will be introduced to addition and subtraction number stories.
·
What does the
word ‘symmetry’ mean? Students will be introduced to symmetry.
·
Where can we find symmetry
in the world around us? Student
will develop an
understanding of symmetry by looking for symmetry in natural objects.
·
Students will also create
Halloween themed patterns.
·
We will revisit ten frames

IB-Where We are in Place and Time
·
The students will understand how people
learn about themselves through family customs and traditions. Students will
study traditions, how the traditions are celebrated, and if there is a special
symbol for the tradition.
·
Students will learn about the American
Holiday: 4th of July. We will discuss the symbols associated with
the holiday: Flag, fireworks, eagle
·
We will discuss what traditions we share
as an American culture such as Birthdays, 4th of July, Thanksgiving,
Memorial Day, Labor Day, Valentine’s Day
·
We will create a chart with all the
traditions we have been learning about from the students Traditions project.
