International Festival is this Friday. Please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:15 and come back for the festival beginning at 4:00. I also used the time in between to schedule parent-teacher conferences. Please refer to the email I sent with the link for the sign-up genius. •
We could use some supplies for our writing center! We are in need of October/Fall stationary, cards, or paper, as well as stickers and fancy pencils.•
We will be using small pumpkins for science activities over the next few weeks. If you could have your child bring in a small pumpkin, that would be helpful! "Sugar pie" pumpkins are a great size.

We will introduce our third part of Daily 5 which is “Read to Someone”. We will discuss and model correct and incorrect things to do during Read to Someone. Each day students will practice work on writing, read to self, wordwork, and read to someone. We will continue to build our stamina as writers and readers.•
Students will read the morning message and hunt for capital letters at the begging of sentence and spacing in between the words.•
We will read “Pumpkin, Pumpkin” and use the reading strategy “Eagle Eye” which we use pictures to help us read unknown words.Writing
Writing will be a continuation of last week’s agenda as well as new topics:
•
Students will learn how to stretch out words and write the sounds you hear when trying to write words.•
Students will learn what to do when they are done with their writing. We say, “When you’re done, you’ve just begun”. Students can add more detail to their drawing or more words to their story.•
We will discuss using our heart map to get ideas for what to write about.•
Students will learn how to add more details to our story: add more words and add more to the pictures.•
Labeling our Illustrations•
Telling stories with illustrationsMath
•
The student will develop understanding of shapes using the sense of touch. What would someone need to tell you about a shape so that you could name it without seeing it? What questions might you ask to get more information?•
The student will review spatial vocabulary and concepts. When do we use position words? Why are position words useful?•
The student will reinforce counting and reading numbers 1-10 using a game. Why is it important to count carefully (accurately)?•
The student will reinforce recognition of patterns through a pattern search activity. How do you know when you’ve found a pattern? What is a pattern? See Home-link 2.5 for additional activities.IB-Who We Are
We will be completing our summative assessment for our first unit of inquiry into our central idea: feelings, abilities, and interests shape our human identities.
Science
Students will learn the parts of a pumpkin. Students will be scientists and use their 5 senses to make observations about the pumpkin. We will then cut the pumpkin open, observe, and discuss the function of the different parts. We will also learn that pumpkins are living things because they grow and have seeds.
