Week 22

Hello Parents! Here is the blog post from this week. Sorry that it is getting out a little later than normal--Ms. Bowman typed it last week, but as you know, she has been quite busy the last couple of days :) We are so excited to welcome her sweet son, Weston!

Reminders:

  • The 100th day of school is on Tuesday February 3rd! Please send in the 100th day project on Tuesday.
  •  We still have one more spot for a chaperone to our field trip on February 18th. If you would like to chaperone and are VIPS approved please e-mail me.
  • Please see the letter in this week's Tuesday folder regarding Valentine's Day. Also, please check your student's December/January morning work that is in their Tuesday folder. If it is not finished, please have them finish it as extra homework.
  • Library is Tuesday, please remember to send your students book with them Tuesday morning. Last week we had a large number of students who forgot their books and were unable to check a new book out. If you have lost the book, you may submit payment to the library.

  • Reading/Language Arts

    Spelling pattern: sh-
Students will listen to review the ch- and th- digraphs and be introduced to the sh- spelling pattern through singing, identifying sh- words, and writing sh- words.
    Writing

This week in writing we will focus on writing about "small moments". Small moments are all about writing with lots of details. We will practice adding feelings, places, and people to our writing to tell our readers more about what happened. We will plan and publish a small moments piece of writing.

    Math

We will celebrate the 100th day of school on Tuesday by doing lots of activities with the number 100! Congratulations on being 100 days smarter and older!!

To increase awareness of the passage of time and the order of events. Is the order that we do things in during the day important? When is it not important?
To introduce a game that involves using multiple attributes to identify and describe objects.  Can attributes help you describe an object?
To develop awareness of equivalent names for numbers using a guessing game.  Is there more than one way we can describe a number?

    IB

We are continuing our new unit of inquiry into how the world works. Our central idea is "Climate affects our lives." Please return the seasons homework if you have not done so already.

    Science

We will continue to learn about landforms and how to identify them.

    Social Studies

We will celebrate Groundhog Day and discover the reason behind the holiday. We will watch the news report to see if the groundhog predicts 6 more weeks of winter or if Spring is near!
