Week 25

Hello Parents!

We had a wonderful week, and the students seemed to really enjoy our field trip to see “Peter Pan.” Please ask them about their experience and the different story elements from the play (characters, settings, problem, solution). The students have loved talking about it.

Reminders:

·      Next Wednesday (February 25) is an early dismissal day. School will end at 12:30 pm.
·      Students should bring their bags of coins early next week (preferably Monday) as we begin learning about money.
·      Remember to have the students bring their library books on Tuesday.
·      Please make sure you are checking your child’s book bag and reading with them. It is very important that they bring those and their books to school daily.

Reading/English Language Arts:

·      We will begin learning about the vowel blend –ou. We will read the emergent reader “You’re Out!” and the poem “Mouse in the House.” The students will bring this home in their poetry folders on Friday.
·      Students will continue working on “How-To” writing. Students will have the opportunity to write a “How-To” story about a subject of their own choice.

Math:

·      Students will be introduced to working with number grids and noticing patterns in number grids.
·      We will begin learning about money. This will include: the purpose of money, the physical differences in coins, and the different values of coins.

Social Studies/Science:

·      Next week we will begin our IIM research. Our class will select a topic related to weather/climate, and this will be an introduction to research, including using multiple sources and recording facts. Most of the research will be done in class, but the students will also have the opportunity to further research at home.

·      We will continue discussing presidents and patriotism. We will focus on the role of the presidency and the contributions of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

I am looking forward to a great week!

    Ms. Hudiburg
