Week 28

Hello Parents!
I hope you had a wonderful Spring Break! I know the students were so excited.
Reminders:
·         Our class is about to garden (one day between March 23-April 3), and we need a parent volunteer. Please let me know if you are interested.
·         Please send your child’s library book to school on Tuesday so that he or she may check out a new one.
·         Please send your child’s book bag with them to school every day.

English Language Arts and Reading:
·         We will review Qu and the /kw/ sound that they make when they are together.
·         We will also review verbs, and the students will be introduced to the past tense and –ed.
·         As a class, we will write an “All About Kindergarten” book using what we know about expository text features and the characteristics of “All About Books.”
·         Students will also select a topic of their choice for an All-About book that they will write. We will begin writing those as well.

Math:
·         Students will be introduced to fractions as we begin learning about the concept of halves and equal sharing.
·         We will also begin learning about time by recording counts for the amount of time it takes to complete different classroom tasks.

Science/Social Studies/IB:
·         We are beginning a new unit of inquiry: sharing the planet.
·         The central idea is: humans and their choices have an impact on the planet. We will discuss ways to be helpful and hurtful to the planet and how our choices affect the Earth. We will also begin discussing endangered animals, and the students will have a take-home assignment about an endangered plant or animal of their choice. This will be sent home within the next few weeks.

I am looking forward to a great week! Please let me know if you need anything!
